This is a very special entry dedicated to Uncle Bala who passed away tonight from a stroke. It all started when he had difficulties breathing last Monday. We were supposed to meet him and Auntie Catherine for lunch that day but he was hospitalised instead. Mum and KK went to see him that night and fortunately caught up with him as the day after, he suffered a severe stroke and fell into a coma.
Mum and I and the kids went to see him yesterday to find out his condition. Unfortunately, the doctors diagnosed that Uncle Bala's brain was severely damaged and recovery was very slim. Seeing him lay there helplessly in the ICU just broke my heart. Auntie Catherine was very strong throughout the whole ordeal. She is an amazing lady, filled with courage.
After consultation between the doctors and the family, it was decided that it was best to let Uncle Bala go and turn off the life support. A quiet service was held to send Uncle Bala off tonight. It was a very moving time for everyone there and it was hard to hold back tears. Auntie Catherine and her sons said prayers using their Bahai book and sang Bahai hymns to bless Uncle Bala as they watched his heart-beat fade away.
Uncle Bala led a full life and was a trusted friend of the family. He was always there for us and we are grateful to have known such a dear man. He was the first to carry Jojo (other than KK and myself) when he came to visit me in the hospital, bringing home-cooked dishes with him.
Uncle Bala, we bid you adieu but will always remember you in our hearts. May you rest in peace.
